2012 Music review and ones to watch 2013

Hello! So as you may have noticed, 2012 has been a big year for music, as there has been an uprising of new music artists from all over the world, plenty or new albums from already big artists, thousands of sold out tours and the 2012 Olympics hosting a whole world of British music talent. I'm going to be splittint up this article into 4 pieces, most popular songs of 2012, my favourite songs/albums of 2012, my favourite new artists of 2012 and my ones to watch in 2013. So, let the music fest begin!

Biggest songs of 2012
In no particular order, these are what I think have been the biggest songs of 2012, not by all means the best, but definitely the biggest.
  • Psy - Gangnam Style: Obviously this had to be in the list as it spread across the world like a plague hitting over 1 billion views on youtube.
  • Gotye - Somebody that I used to know: This was extremely overused however luckily this craze has died down (unlike gangnam style, sigh)
  • Carly Rae Jepsen - Call me maybe: This was a huge hit this summer with thousands of people covering this song whether they were famous or not. The USA swimming team also did a lipsinc to this video here. This song is so catchy that almost everyone will sing to it when it comes on!
  • Nicki Minaj - Starships: Definitely an overrated song but unfortunately it's unbelievably catchy, just like call me maybe.
  • Emeli Sande - Next to me: Emeli is hugely talented and I won't argue that, however this song was played EVERYWHERE for about 2 and a half months which kind of makes you hate it after nonstop playing (sorry!)
  • David Guetta ft Sia - Titanium: Once again a huge summer hit similarly to call me maybe and starships. Sia's voice is brilliant however I much prefer her own material to this.
  • Taylor Swift - We are never getting back together: Another breakup song from Taylor Swift however they're getting more and more catchy!
There have been plenty of other big songs this year by FUN, Jessie J and Maroon 5, however I think these songs were the biggest.
My favourite songs/albums of 2012
  • Muse - The 2nd law: This album is so different to their older material but after seeing their set live I fell completely head over heels with this album! Definitely a grower. My favourite song off the album is probably Supremacy, very James Bond-ey and great live.
  • The Vaccines - Norgaard:I saw this band live too, and this song is so upbeat and jumpy it's brilliant! Way too short for my liking but the best songs usually are.
  • Nina Nesbitt - Boy: Lovely debut single from a great upcoming artist (also saw her live this year, twice...)
  • Lauren Aquilina - Fools: Another lovely song from an upcoming artist who is getting more and more noticed.
  • Marina and the diamonds - Electra Heart: Great little electro-pop album filled with sentimental and upbeat songs. Marina is definitely underrated but her loyal fans make up for that.
  • The Wanted - Chasing the sun:I still have a huge soft spot for the wanted, but this song is so catchy
My favourite artists of 2012
  • Lewis Watson
  • The Vaccines
  • Bastille
  • Lawson
  • Imagine Dragons
  • Ben Howard
  • Gabrielle Aplin
  • Nina Nesbitt
  • Lana Del Rey
  • Daughter
Ones to watch in 2013
  • Alt-J: Their debut album was released this year and it's so good/relaxing/beautiful
  • Bastille: Their music is a bit of everything but it comes together so well, their stuff has been used on a lot of adverts, especially on channel 4.
  • Matt Corby: Brilliant artist from Australia who will hopefully get bigger in the UK
  • Gabrielle Aplin: As seen on the John Lewis advert, her debut album will be released in the spring of 2013, she is also going to be touring the UK as well as being support to Ed Sheeran in Australia.
  • Lewis Watson: Lewis is already getting more noticed in the UK and some of America. He's going to be releasing a debut album soon (I think) as well as visiting America and touring Australia with Birdy.
  • Nina Nesbitt: Beautiful new artist from Scotland, already getting noticed and played by BBC introducing and radio 1. Debut album released next year.
  • Imagine Dragons: American and UK tour in 2013 following the release of their album 'Night Visions'.
Of course I have missed out lot of artists and albums that I can't remember, however 2013 looks like a promising year for new artists and I hope to be writing to you all about them.
Oh and by the way, I hope you all have a Happy New Year 2013 and  that you all have a great year!
