This incredible five pieced band from Nottingham are named 'Dog is dead' and have recently released their debut album 'All our favourite stories'. If you have been listening to radio 1 recently, you're likely to have heard their song 'Teenage Daughter', if not, then I will introduce you to this spectacular band and all their quirks.
The band is composed of five lovely lads called Robert Milton, Joss Van Wilder, Lawrence 'Trev' Cole, Daniel Harvey and Rob 'Paul Roberts' White. They started performing in 2008 after a couple of the band members had formed earlier to play at a school concert.
They began to get noticed in 2009/2010 when they toured with One Night Only and appeared at the Dot to Dot festival, and then, BBC Introducing invited them to play at their stage at Glastonbury where they performed some of their promotional 'Your Childhood Records' EP as well as their first single 'Glockenspiel Song', which was often played on BBC Radio 1 and BBC radio 6. Dog is Dead became the first unsigned band to appear on the BBC 2 coverage of the Glastonbury festival.
In 2011, the band appeared on the final episode of Skins' fifth season as they were noticed by the scriptwriter who saw their performance at Glastonbury, this brought them to be even more noticed and shortly after, they became signed to Atlantic Records, who released several of their older songs as well as 2 new releases. The band then continued to tour with Bombay Bicycle Club, did several headline tour dates, and appeared at several UK festivals as well as one in Paris and Amsterdam.
2012 was a big year for Dog is Dead as they released their debut album in October which offers the 'saxophone vibes' from 'Glockenspiel song' or the woeful lyrics of 'Teenage Daughter', this band are absolutely one I'm going to keep an eye out for, they may not be suited for everyone but I do think that there will be at least 1 song you can listen to and relax, or relate to.
**If you're seeing the band 'Of Monsters and Men' on tour, Dog is Dead will be their first support act**
So if you're interested in wonderfully beautiful harmonies, a bit of jazzy saxophone and really, a bit of everything, then Dog is Dead, is the perfect band for you. And even if you're not sure of their music or it isn't your kind of thing, then you will most definitely fall in love with their lovely personalities.
